According to recent research results published in by the AAO Journal, treating patients with selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) could delay visual field progression and may mitigate the need for more intense interventions.
Researchers evaluated the efficacy of SLT as a first-line treatment for glaucoma and ocular hypertension. This secondary analysis of the LiGHT trial included 588 eyes that underwent medical therapy and 590 eyes treated first with SLT. A greater proportion of eyes experienced moderate or fast visual field progression in the medical therapy group compared with the SLT group (26% vs. 17%; P<0.001).
