Our eyes have a natural lens ; in order to see clearly, it must be transparent.
When a patient suffers from cataract, the eye’s lens is opaque. It’s like looking through a misty window, and can hinder tasks such as reading or driving.
Generally, cataract is a result of normal aging. After turning 40 years old, normal proteins in the eye lens begin to disintegrate and turn it opaque.
Most age-related cataract cases develop gradually and don’t hinder vision during early stages. That’s why preventive checkups are so important.
