What cause red eyes (bloodshot eyes)

Redness in the eyes (bloodshot eyes) can be caused by many conditions that cause irritation and lead to the swelling of the blood vessels in the surface of the eye. Those conditions can be mild like allergies, poor sleep, or excessive use of screen time. More serious diseases can also manifest as red eye as glaucoma, infections, or intraocular inflammation.

Lumify by Bausch & Lomb is an over-the-counter FDA approved eye drop that helps to relieve eye redness, making the eyes look whiter and refreshed.

One drop in each eye has several hours of effect and very few side effects. It’s a low dose brimonidine (a drug used in ophthalmology for many years to treat glaucoma) with very known side effects long term.

Lumify
differs from the other eye relievers in that it does not decrease the oxygen to the surface of the eye since it does only work on the veins.

Should I see an eye care provider before using Lumify?

It is always recommended that you see your eye care provider if you have chronic red eyes, or if the redness is associated with pain, light sensitivity or decreased vision to ruled out an underlying condition that can threat your vision and well being.

Facts about Lumify:

  • It is FDA eye drop approved as redness reliever
  • It reduces the incidence of rebound redness
  • We recommend to consult your eye care provider if you experience red eye to rule out an eye disease
